Jamie joined Gadsby Wicks in 2025, soon after completing her law degree at the University of Leeds, and now plays a critical role in evaluating potential new clients.

From screening cases and presenting these to our leadership, which helps determine valid claims, to liaising with new clients about the next steps in their journey, Jamie is a valuable asset to our team and has a bright career in medical negligence ahead of her.

What was your background before joining Gadsby Wicks?

Before I joined Gadsby Wicks, I studied Law at the University of Leeds from 2020-2023. While studying, I volunteered for Citizens Advice in their Welfare Appeals and Tribunal Clinic, and also took part in legal work placements across a variety of sectors, including criminal law, commercial law and medical negligence.

While completing my Master’s Degree, I worked in hospitality alongside my studies, while continuing to volunteer at a Legal Advice Clinic.

What motivated you to join Gadsby Wicks?

I knew I would have a career in law before I even attended university. As I gained practical exposure to various areas of law during my degree, I discovered that medical negligence was the field that gave me the most enjoyment, and where I saw my long-term future.

The intersection of medicine and law fascinated me from the outset, and I soon developed a strong interest in helping those affected by negligent treatment recover the compensation they deserved.

With my heart set on a career in medical negligence, my research quickly led me to Gadsby Wicks. Their sole dedication to this area of the law, and their strong reputation in our industry, made it the obvious choice for me, so I could work alongside and learn from specialists in this unique field.

What are your responsibilities at Gadsby Wicks?

As a Paralegal at Gadsby Wicks, my initial role has focused on screening the cases our firm receives. This involves taking calls from potential clients, collating information about their claim and medical history, before presenting this to the solicitors at our daily meetings, where they will make a decision if the claim is eligible or not.

If we choose to pursue a client’s claim, I will then liaise with them about the next steps, including how they will arrange funding and the preparation of key documents.

What do you find fulfilling about your role?

I appreciate the day-to-day variation of my role, which has actively supported my learning about new medical concepts and legal processes.

What I find particularly fulfilling is presenting a case that our solicitors agree to take on, as it makes me feel like I have directly contributed to someone’s journey to potentially secure compensation for the harm they endured.

What qualities help make you an effective paralegal?

I am an attentive and empathetic listener. This helps me to quickly establish trust with potential clients, so they enter the legal process as comfortable and informed as possible.

Furthermore, my strong organisational skills mean I complete tasks in an efficient, timely manner, while my meticulous attention ensures every document is prepared to a high standard.

Since 2024, I have also worked towards my LLM SQE1&2 at BPP Law School, where I study part-time outside of work.

What do you do outside of Gadsby Wicks?

In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. I also like to travel when I can and visit new places.
