Cerebral Palsy due to inappropriate use of Prostin – £7,023,000

Mrs Crowther was taking prescribed medication for hypertension. Six weeks before her estimated due date of delivery of her second pregnancy, in 1989, her medication was increased. She was admitted to hospital three weeks later, and was induced a fortnight after, with the administration of Prostin pessaries.

Monitoring was inadequate and delivery was delayed. The baby did not breathe until 4 minutes after the birth, leading to Cerebral Palsy.
