Hospital To Close Maternity and A&E Services For Winter

Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, South London, has announced that it intends to close its maternity and accident and emergency departments over the winter.

The hospital has a high number of vacant posts for doctors and midwives but, for one reason or another, it has not been possible to recruit staff to fill the posts.  As a result, it is feared that staffing levels over the winter would  put patient safety at risk and so a decision has been taken to close the affected departments for the winter.

Patients will be rightly concerned that their local services are compromised by the failure to recruit staff to fill vacant posts.
