Tony Mitty

Medical Negligence Solicitor and Partner

LLB (Hons) University of Mid-Glamorgan

Managing to get compensation for people who have been injured through no fault of their own is both personally and professionally rewarding. Because of the nature of litigation, there is a lot of personal interaction with clients, so when you achieve a result that can help make their life a little easier, it feels like you are sharing in their success.

Tony Mitty

Why did you become a solicitor?

Working at a local solicitors’ firm while studying for my law degree cemented in my mind that this was what I wanted to do as a career. This first-hand experience helped me realise that this was my ideal working environment, and that I especially wanted to be involved in litigation.

Over 30 years later I still remain as enthusiastic and professionally stimulated about my work as when I started.

Why did you choose to specialise in medical negligence?

From the outset, medical or clinical negligence was an area of law that fascinated me. The combination of law and medicine ensures every day is intellectually challenging, and I have the opportunity to secure good outcomes that make my clients’ lives easier.

What is your legal background?

I qualified as a solicitor in 1992 after obtaining my academic qualifications and completing my training with a local firm. Since then, I have worked exclusively in dispute resolution and litigation, specialising in injury claims.

What motivated you to join Gadsby Wicks?

From its inception, Gadsby Wicks has been committed to delivering the best outcomes for people at a difficult time in their lives, while maintaining a stimulating and collaborative environment for all members of staff at the same time.

Gadsby Wicks has always had an excellent reputation in the field of clinical negligence, and is at the forefront of change and innovation in this area of law.

I had always admired the firm, and so when the opportunity arose to join as a Partner I could not refuse. I share its values and am delighted to help shape its present and future.

What are your responsibilities at Gadsby Wicks?

As a Partner at Gadsby Wicks, I hold a number of management responsibilities, while also handling a varied caseload.

Alongside my fellow partners, I help ensure our firm has access to the necessary systems and maintains the ideal working environment to provide the highest level of client service possible.

When working on cases, a typical day for me may include meeting with clients, investigating and progressing cases, engaging in settlement meetings, studying and drafting legal documents, conversing with barristers and medical experts, and representing the interests of clients in court.

Like all of our medical negligence solicitors, I take on a wide range of cases not restricted by subject matter or value. This has helped me develop a huge breadth of knowledge and experience.

What qualities help make you an effective solicitor?

I always put my client’s interests at the forefront of everything I do. I actively engage and communicate with them over the course of their claim, and thoroughly investigate each case. This helps me get to the heart of the issues presented, to focus on the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.

My colleagues would describe me as hardworking and committed, experienced but never complacent.

What do you find fulfilling about your role?

The most fulfilling aspect of my work is gaining the best possible outcome for my clients – something our resources and expertise at Gadsby Wicks helps us to achieve.

Every time I have been able to help clients find answers to their questions and recover compensation is a standout case to me. To provide some comfort and closure for those who have been injured or lost a loved one is incredibly rewarding, and something I never take for granted.

Whether an early resolution has been determined, or a hard-fought case concludes at Trial, I give everything to help my clients achieve the best possible outcome. This continues to be the main driving force for the work I do on a day-to-day basis.

What do you do outside of Gadsby Wicks?

Beyond my work at Gadsby Wicks, I am also the Chair of an Educational Foundation Charity. In my free time I enjoy both playing and watching cricket, participating in Parkrun, and spending time with my family.

Client Testimonials

“I honestly don’t think that I can say anything that would improve your service”
Carol Fisher

“Very professional. Felt at ease with what was a difficult time going over my daughter’s illness. Would definitely recommend”
Margaret Maclennan

“Mr Mitty is the most caring, kind, considerate and compassionate solicitor. It has been a pleasure to deal with him from start to finish. It has been very difficult throughout Covid-19 but he has dealt with this with true professionalism. Any future client that gets assigned to him will be truly blessed”
Jackie Garo-Falides

“I was extremely satisfied. Anthony Mitty was very efficient, knowledgeable, very astute and friendly. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone. In fact, I already have but unfortunately, their case was out of time”
Mike Webb

“During what was a life-changing time for me, after losing my husband, Tony Mitty was warm and kind. He gave me time to explain the initial situation, which was an extremely hard thing to do. His commitment to find out all the facts was exemplary. Even when I thought there couldn’t be another avenue to explore, he went further to find more answers. My case did not result in a positive outcome. After finding all the medical facts it was concluded that nothing could have been done to change the outcome. This brought great comfort to my daughter in particular. So even though there was no case to answer the greatest result we had was closure to enable us to look to our futures. I would like to thank Tony Mitty for his warmth and kindness and for maintaining such great professionalism over the two years we worked on this. I can’t say enough to thank him for helping me through the process”
Marie-Ann Capps

“Very happy with the service provided by Anthony Mitty and all at Gadsby Wicks. Always felt well looked after and was confident of professional service and good outcome”
Cathy
