Medical Negligence Solicitor

LLB (Hons) Anglia Ruskin University

Why did you become a medical negligence solicitor?

I became a medical negligence solicitor to help make a difference, both to the clients that we represent, and the families of those affected. Having handled dozens of cases, I know the devastating impact subpar treatment can have on individuals and their loved ones.

A career in medical negligence allows me to use my legal skills to act for injured people, and help them pursue the recompense they need to move forward and live as fulfilling a life as possible.

As well as being a fascinating area of the law, the work that I do also has the potential to create positive changes in hospitals and GPs, preventing similar incidents occurring in the future.

What is your legal background?

I began my career at Thompsons Solicitors, first working as a paralegal. After some time, I progressed to become a solicitor in 2011, and worked in Wiseman Lee’s clinical negligence department from 2015.

From here, I joined the Gadsby Wicks team in 2016 where I work as a Senior Solicitor, responsible for managing a varied case load and supervising junior fee earners.

What motivated you to join Gadsby Wicks?

Having grown up in and around the Chelmsford area, I have been aware of Gadsby Wicks’s outstanding reputation for most of my professional life. When the opportunity to join the team arose, it was an offer I could not turn down.

Beyond the firm’s excellent reputation, I was keen on joining Gadsby Wicks because it would allow me to focus on clinical negligence and act for injured people – something that continues to drive me after more than 10 years in the industry.

It is extremely rewarding to be able to be an ear for injured patients and to get them the money that can help make their lives a little easier. We see the same types of cases happening over again though, which is incredibly frustrating. We need to see hospitals – both NHS and private – making sure they learn from their mistakes.

What are your responsibilities at Gadsby Wicks?

Working as a Senior Solicitor, I am responsible for supervising junior members of the team and managing my own caseload. This involves meeting with clients in person or over the phone, liaising with experts and defendants, conferencing with barristers, drafting documents and attending court hearings.

Every day, I strive to be approachable, empathetic and attentive, with close attention to detail. This helps me identify key issues and make meaningful progress on all of our clients’ cases.

I am also communicative, explaining key issues and updates in a way that claimants and their families can easily understand.

What do you find fulfilling about your role?

The ability to make positive, potentially life-changing differences for the individuals I represent is incredibly fulfilling. Helping people and their families seek compensation and closure motivates me every day.

It is also my hope that the hospitals and GPs we pursue make lasting improvements. The possibility of preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future is what gives the work I do so much value to me professionally.

Furthermore, each day is different. I have the privilege of meeting and representing a diverse range of people across a wide variety of cases, from cancer misdiagnosis and mismanagement during surgery, to brain damage at birth and wrongful birth case

Had dealings with Gadsby Wicks for over 10 years. Highly recommended and Jessica Wright’s assistance was impeccable.
