Medical Errors Kill 1 In 300 Patients

The Chief Medical Officer has said that medical errors kill 1 in 300 patients. In an interview with the Guardian the CMO, Sir Liam Donaldson, added that hospital acquired infections, such as MRSA, kill 5,000 patients a year in England and that patients are 33,000 times more likely to be killed by a medical error than in a plane crash. He said that health professionals needed to do more to address patient safety.
